Role of Java in Natural Language Processing for Indian Regional Languages

Abstract

Java is an object oriented language invented for embedded systems and extended to use for software development for the Internet. Java capabilities like platform independence, distributed application development, multithreaded application development makes it suitable for development of applications in modern scenario. Support for Unicode is an essential component to work with variety of language character sets other then English. Text processing packages provided in java libraries are much useful for Natural Language Processing tasks. There are variety of toolkits available to process english text for Natural Language Processing but no up to the mark tool is available for Indian Regional Language text processing. The researchers are working on their own from scratch to process Indian Language text using any programming language of their choice. This paper discusses suitability of java for Natural Language Processing from various aspects
